CHINESE ON THE RAND.
WELLINGTON PUBLIC PASS A RESOLUTION. ran PRESS ASSOCIATION, Wellington, January 16. A public meeting held to-night to discuss the policy of the British Government in regard to Chinese labor in the Transvaal was well attended, The following resolution was passed:— " That whereas the lute British Government at the dictation of a small number of capitalists has seen fit to introduce Chinese coolic labor into the Transvaal, under the pretence that the richest gold mines in the world would not pay if free white labor were employed, and whereas such policy is at variance with the sentiment and traditions of the British race, this meeting hereby expresses its hearty sympathy with the policy of the British Liberal Party as unfolded by its leader, Sir H. Campbell-Banncrman, ;in-.l trusts that for the sake of the honor and good name of the Empire tii.it the policy will be endorsed by the electors of Great Britain and Ireland."
