Many representative men in Canada and the United States Attended a Conference at Ottawa, held in connection with the preservation of Canadian forests. Speaking at a banquet in honor of the visitors, Sir William Laurier, emphasising the friendly relations between Canada and the United States, and i be'--tween both these countries and Great Britain, said: "The race is separated by events to which it is needless to allude, but 1 do not despair ot seeing a re-union effected in the eon 'se of time, which will place the three nations at . the head of civilisation."
