THE BIG BAND CONTEST.
Js the Boson Shield going to find its home in the South Island? The possession of this shield betokens the champion band of the colony, and from reliable reports to hand it seems likely that a keen contest is about to take place. ft is stated that a southern bund has been greatly strengthened since it last appeared at a contest some years ago; in fad, more than one soul hern bund appears to be very confident of being close to the top when the results of the 11)01! contest at Hawera are made known. It is even reported, in a jocular manner, of one band iliut they have taken up (heir residence at the practice room. Everything seems to point to a hard-fought '■ conflict for honors, and the present •■ holders (Wanganui) of the coveted : shield may have to look to their I laurels.
