WEDDELLS' REVIEW. Received 11, 11.20 p.m. Londos, January 12. Messrs Wcddells' annual review of the meat trade refers to the leiidency lliroughout the world to breed large sheep, though consumers greatly prefer the young, meaty carcases under oOlbs. Under present conditions it is unsafe to assume- that the, prices of 1900 will equal those of 1905. In regard to colonial consignments, the general consensus of opiuiou is (hat prices will range lower. All producing countries have placed a higher value on Uvc stock than this market can supports"'
BEWLEY AND GRIFFITHS' WEEKLY REPORT. Messrs Bewley and Griffiths report only a small entry of poultry being, penued. Prices were slightly down on account of the Christmas vacation. Hens realised Is to Is Id, cockerels Is 9d to 2s sd. No ducks, turkeys or geese were offering. Furniture.—We had a large entry, and prices realised in favour of vendors. Vegetables.—Potatoes, small, Id; good, 2d; cabbage plants Id; turnips, ■ls ; bag cabbages, 3d j broccoli, 3d; peas, Is peck ; beet, 3d; leeks, sd; cauliflowers, 3d ; lettuce, 6d doz.; cucumbers, 4Jd; rhubarb 3d. Fruit.—Plums, 3s to 4s; peaches, Is Od to 6s Od; bananas, 7s Od; apples, 2s Od to 3s Od; gooseberries, is 3d (all large cases); strawberries, 7d to 8d lib boxes; tomatoes, lis case; plums and peaches are very cheap, market rates. We have fruit arriving daily now. BUCKLAND'S STOCK REPORT. [Special to "News." ArcKXAXD, January 12. Hores.—Full yard; good demand. Young, useful sort of medium draughts to £32 ; good hacks and harness, £l4 19s and £23 ; ordinary, £6 and £l3 10s. Weeds and ponies, late rates. At Remuera, beef was in full supply, and sold at lower rates. Steers up to 20s; hundred cows to 17s. Sheep was well represented. Best wethers made up to 23s Od; ewes to 18s 9d lambs to ISs. Pigs, usual supply, prices slightly lower. Porkers went up to 30s; baeoners to 57s 6d.
MR NEWTON KING'S WEEKLY AUCTION REPORT. At the Haymarket on Saturday a large number of pigs sold at satisfactory prices, slips making 8s Od; weaners, 9s to 13s Od; small stores, 10s to 255; pony, saddle and bridle £6. At the Mart, chicks niadc Od to Is lOd; good cockerels 2s Id: hens Is i lOd ; furniture and sundries made low' prices, Frujt.-The market is full of plums and prices are low, ranging from 2s to 4s 6d; peaches, 3s to 0s Od ; apricots, 7s; apples 2s to 3s; tomatoes, 5s to 7s; cucumbers 4s to (is: black currants, Ss to 10s. At Stratford on Tuesday yearlings made up to 2(is ; forward store, cows £2 5s to £2 7s ; fat cows, £3 10s; springing heifers £3 7s (id to £47s Od; heifers and calves £2 15s to £4 10s; bulls, £2 Us ts £2 1.55; stags £1 10s. VICKERS AND STEVENS' REPORT. Messrs Tickers and Stevens report that there was a good entry of cattle in their Inglewood yards on Wednesday, and nearly everything was sold at the following prices:—Good weaners, 13s (id; yearling to 15-montlis, £1 5s to £1 15s 6d; empty heifers, £1 17s to £2 5s ; 18-months to 20-month steers, £2; store cows £1 os to £2 10s 6d. At Tnrata on Monday there was a good yarding, and only one or two pens were passed. Yearlings made £1 5s lo £1 Us; steers, £2 lis to £2 13s; store cows, £2 2s fid; empty heifers, £2 2s.
