BACK FROM SOUTH AMERICA.

NEW ZEALANDER'S IMPRESSIONS OF ARGENTINE AND I BOLIVIA. r CimisTcnuncH, January 11. j After spending about five years in j missionary work in the Argentine and Bolivia, Mr C. T. Wilson is back in 1 New Zealand on "deputation" work, 1 and is now iu Cliristchurch. He lefl r his native town (Duncdin) six years ago as a member of the Australian 1 South American Mission, and during l his absence saw much of the Argentine and its people, as well as Bolivia. In the course of his work in the Argentine, Mr Wilson met many New Zca- ' landers. Most of them seemed to be doing very well. The party that left the Commonwealth some years ago lo found a New Australia hud practically failed, but those who were engaged in an individual endeavour to achieve success were not disappointed, so far as lie was able to ascertain. Of Bolivia Mr Wilson saw a great deal. In some regions the climate is exceedingly dry, and in others very damp. There arc healthy spots, and others that would kill any person who attempted to livo on them. There aro places not inhabited, owing to the scarcity of watc •, and others uninhabitable for the exce.<s of it. In some regions terrible winds are experienced, while many . people live where scarcely a breeze is j felt. There is land that saddens because of its barrenness and dreariness, ' and other parts that are inaccessible j because of the superabundance of vege- , tation. The Indians are by right the - owners of the country, but they really have no rights, and arc reduced almost to slavery. They are despised by the masses, and looked upon as mere brutes, but they arc a quiet, honest, and humble people.
