TARANAKI JiIFLE ASSOCIATION. At a meeting of the Taranaki Hide Association at New Plymouth on Monday to make arrangements for an Association meeting to •be held at the Waiwakaiho range on Wednesday and Thursday, 28th February and Ist March The following officers were elected: Patron: Col. Ellis; President: Lieut.Colonel Okey; Vice-Presidents: His Worship the Mayor, and M.'s.H.lt. of the province; Council: Officers of the Battalion and Captains of Affiliated Volunteer Corps and lii lie Clubs;Secretary: Captain C. T. Mills; Treasurer: Captain G. Cock. The programme c mmittec— Lieut, Messenger, Col.-Serg. ants Annitagc and Beadle, Privates Bennett and A. Humphries—subsequently drew up a programme,' which slit ild find universal fin or with riflemen. Special inducement is given to young shots to compete, there "being over 40 prices for ty'os, apart from the' Government and Grand Aggregate matches, ; Kules for the conduct of the meeting were adoptod. A tyro is'defined as a person who has never won prize money amounting to S, 1 or upwards at my Association mooting. Tho meeting will be opened to all-comers, and members will bo allowed to use their own ammunition, or purchase from the Association at 12s 6d per 100.
BATTALION PARADE. if» A Battalion parade of tho Tarauaki Guards and tho Rifles took place on luesday night Hoadod by tho New Uymoutli Garrison Bund, tho Battalion marched out from Devon-street to the locality -between the Heitui river and the beach—chosqn for the manoeuvres, which took the form of outpost duty. The Guards, under Captain Mills, on arriving »t the rendezvous, mounted outposts. The Rifles' duty was to pierce the Guards' lines. A challenge within ten paces from either the dc-' femliug or attacking force, involved the surrender of the challenged. The men entered thoroughly into the spirit of the movements, imd the mancouvres were very instructive, and honors about oven, Captain Okoy was iu command of the Rifles, and'the parade was tinder tho supervision of Colonel I Okcy,
lho New Plymouth Volunteer corps go into camp for their annual course of instruction on February Bth. daylight parade of the Stratford link's is to be held to-morroiv (Thursday) afternoon.
lhe Rifles are holding a social evening on llnu'sday, the occasion being the formal opening of their orderly room.
Mr Harvey Gibbon has presented l.hff Uifles with a Mauser carbine for competition, It was taken from the Doer camp at the relief of Ladysmith, and sent out to Mr Gibbon by Sir iicdvers Buller, A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr (ribbon for his donation of such an interesting and valuable trophy. The Kiflc Union junior match, Hilles A. Guards A., takes place on Thursday. lhe majority of the Council of the liiile Union, have decided that there should lie a second round for tlie Senior Shield; the first match takes place on the 18th. As the shooting men are anxious to get in all the practice they can at the long ranges, in view o! tlie Association meetings at 1 reutluun and elsewhere, tins deeisioti is unfortunate.
