The Orphan Home, Parnell, Auckland^ APPEAL. The disastrous firo that occurreUa the Orphan Home, Parnell, Aucklant ,- on Bunday, September 17, will I J fresh in the minds of the readers < 1 this paper. i This appeal is intended to mak plain the extent of the loss, its el feet upon the present condition o the children, and the urgent necessit (or Funds to provide adequately an wisely for their future welfare. Children from the districts wher this paper circulates have from tim to time been oared for in the Home — hich has, therefore, a particular a ..ell as a general claim upon you sympathies. 1.-THE LOSS. Thw two Main Dormitories are ab r . solutely destroyed, that is, the sleep - ing accommodation of over 70 children. In addition, the Matron's Quarters, Staff Diningroom, Sewing room, Seamstress' Bedroom and Ho» I pital are totally destroyed, and, besides this, a considerable quantity ol Clothing and Furniture has been lost What this means to the children an to the matron and her staff can [ hardly be Conveyed by mere words. 3.-NEW BUILDINGS. The matter of providing New Build p ings has been receiving the carefu consideration of the Board, as ap pears by the last two annual re ports, and a New Buildings Fun has been created. In providing permanent accommod I ation, the safety of the children is : consideration of paramount import I ance, and this can only be secured i Buildings of Stone or Brick. ! t 8.-THE COST. , Of such Buildings on modern lines t roughly, estimated at from £SOOO t £7OOO, in addition to -which it ma be necessary to purchase land. 4.-THE FINANCIAL POSITION, Tho income from the Board's En dowments is fully absorbed in main , taining the 89 children in the Home The numbers have i».creascd s'/.~i 31st March, 1905, by 28, and for th current year, owing to such increase the Board anticipates a debit balanc of expenditure over receipts. Thi will, of course, be increased by th expenses inevitably attendant npo the fire. ..To take any considerabl sum from the Capital for buildin purposes would very seriously hamp er the work of the Home, and preju dice tho well-being of the children. THE APPEAL OF THE CHILDBEI For the sake of the good work done in past years, for the sake o the larger work to be dono now an in the years to come, and above all in the name of Christ, for the sak lof riis little ones, wo appeal for | help.
