A BOMB OUTRAGE AT MELBOURNE.
ATTEMPTED VENGEANCE ON A DETECTIVE. Deceived (i, 8.5 i p.m. ilEi.BoiaxE, Janunry 6. A sensational bomb-throning occurred at the residence of DetectiveSergt. O'Donncll. A stone bottle, charged with powerful explosive, was thrown into the sleeping room, and the I sounb of the breaking glass roused O'Donnell, who lired a shot at the disapwaring man. Tht explosion partially wrecked and set fire to the room, but the flames were extinguished without serious damage being caused. Mrs O'Donnell and flvo ohildren were in the house, but nono of thorn were injured. Detective O'Donngll attributes the outrage to some botting people, in prosecuting whom recontly he took an active part. He alleges that the house has been shadowed, and that several of those assisting him have been assaulted and had their windows broken.
