The Orphan Home, Parnell, Auckland. APPEAL. The disastrous fire that occurred at tho Orphan Home, Parnell, Aucklafld on Sunday, September 17, will b fresh in the minds of the readers o this paper. This appeal is intended to mak« plain the extent of the loss, its eft tect upon the present condition o the children, and the urgent necessit tor Funds to provide adequately as wisely for their future wtiifaro. Children from the districts wher this paper circulates have from tim to time been eared for in the Home which has, therefore, a particular a well as a general claim upon you sympathies. I.—THE LOSS, Th» two Main Dormitories are ab solutely destroyed, that is, the sleep' ing accommodation of over 70 children. In addition, the Matron's Quarters, Staff Diningroom, Sewing room, Seamstress' Bedroom and Hospital are totally destroyed, and, besides this, a considerable quantity of Clothing and Furniture has been lost What this means to the children an to the matron and her staff can hardly be conveyed by mere words. S.-NEW BUILDINGS. The matter of providing New Build ings has been receiving the carcfu consideration of the Board, as ap pears by the last two annual re ports, and a New Buildings Fun has been created. In providing permanent accommod ation, the safety of the children is consideration of paramount import ance, and this can only be secured J Buildings of Stone or Brick.

B.—THE COST. Of such Buildings on modern lines i roughly estimated at from £SOOO t £7OOO, in addition to whieh it ma be necessary to purchase land. 4.—THE FINANCIAL POSITION, The income from the Board's En dowments is fully absorbed in main taining the 89 children in the Home The numbers have increased Blr.-a 31st March, 1905, by 28, and for th current year, owing to such increase the Board anticipates a debit balanc of expenditure over receipts. Thi will, of course, be increased by th expenses inevitably attendant upo the fire. ..To take any considerab) sum from the Capital for buildin purposes would very seriously hamp er the work of the Home, and preju dice the well-being of the children. THE APPEAL OF THE CI7ILDREI For the sake of the good work done ia-. "years, ~Tor'the auto* J, tho larger work to be done now an in the years to come, and above all in the name of Christ, for the Bak o( His little cnes, we appeal for help. ' CHARLES M.
