The Orphan Home, Parnell, Auckland. appeal. The disastrous fire that occurred at tha Orphan Homo, Parnell, Auckland on Sunday, September 17, will b fresh in the minds of the readers o this paper. This appeal is Intended to plain the extent of the loss, its eN feet upon the present condition o tha children, and the urgtmt necessit for Funds to provide adequately an wisely for their future welfare. Children from the districts wlior this paper circulates have from tim to time been eared for in the Home which has, therefore, a particular a well as a general claim upon you sympathies. 1.-THE LOSS, Th» two Main Dormitories are ab solutely destroyed, that is, the sleeping accommodation of over 70 children. Is addition, the Matron's Quarters, Stn.fi Mningroqm, Sewing room, Seamstress' Bedrooin and pital are totally destroyed, and, besides this, a considerable quantity ot Clothing and Furniture has been lost What this means to the children an to the matron and her staff can hardly be conveyed by mere words. 2.-NEW BUILDINGS, Tha matter of providing New Build ings has been receiving the carefu consideration of the Board, as ap pears by the last two annual re ports, and a New Buildings Fun has been created. In providing permanent accommod ation, the Bafety of the children is consideration of paramount import ance, and this can only be Becured 1 Buildings of Stone or Brick.

B.—THE COST, Of such Buildings on modem lines I roughly estimated at from £SOOO t £7OOO, in addition to whieh it ma be necessary to purchase land. 4.—THE FINANCIAL POSITION. The income from the Board's En dowments is fully absorbed in main taining the 89 children in the Home The numbers have increased 31st March, 1905, by 28, and for th current year, owing to such increaso the Board anticipates a debit balanc of expenditure over receipts. Thi will, of course,, bo increased by th expenses inevitably attendant upo the fire. ..To take any considerabJ. sum from the Capital for buildin purposes would very seriously hamp er the work of the Home, ttixi preju dice the well-being of the children. THE APPEAL OP THE CEULDREI For tho sake of the good work done _ln past years, for the sake o the larger work to be done now an in the years to come, and above all in tho name of Christ, for the sak of His little cnes, we appeal for lielp. CHARLES M. NELSON, Chairman. ' W. E. GILLAM, Vice-Chairman. Wm. Calder. A, Littler. Geo. Mac Murray. T. Charter, Q. A. Carver. W. W. Hill. (J. D, Ashton, It. B. Morrow. A. V. Macdonald. Robert Walker.Wm. Jcffery, F. Thos. Ward Carlton Hay. C. J". TUNKS. Hon. Treasurer I confidently commend this appea to the charitablo consideration o thoso who care for Christ's littl cnes. I am assured that the Orpha, Home Board will take all wants in to consideration in their plans' fo the future. M. R. AUCKLAND. Bishopscourt, September 22, 1905. NOTE.—Subscriptions will be glad ly received by any member of the Board or by the Secretary, Mr W. G V. Jackman, Fort Street, Auckland. W at tho oflire o' this paper. now stands at £lllO. The insuranco on the Building des troyed is £1250. Amount available is £2300. Rough estimate of amount stil required for Building is £464 The Home has not received any; Government subsidy for the lasfl twenty years. It has been already stated that th Board had begun to form a Buildin Fund. Had it proved necessary t make a Public Appeal, in tho future for that fund, the amount asked fo would have been compai'itively small NOW THERE IS NO ALTERNA NATIVE : THE APPEAL IJAf TO GO FORTH TO-DAY FOR -2^ as L:-£SOOO, Taranaki Foundry OKEY&ROLLO ENGINEERS, IRON AND BRASS FOUNDERS.
