The Orphan Home, Parnell, Auckland. APPEAL. The disastrous firo that occurred at the Orphan Home, Parnell, Auckland on Sunday, September 17, will b fresh in the minds of the readers o this paper. This appeal is intended to moke plain the extent of the loss, its' efi feet upon the present condition ot the children, and the urgent necessit for Funds to provide adequately an wisely for their future welfare. Children from the districts wher this paper circulates have from tim to time been cared for in the Home which has, therefore, a particular a well ai a general claim upon you sympathies. I.—THE LOSS, Th» two Main Dormitories are ab eolutcly destroyed, that is, the sleeping accommodation of over 70 children. In addition, the Matron's Quarters, Staff Diningroom, Sewing room, Seamstress' Bedroom and Hos~ pital are totally destroyed, and, besides this, a considerable quantity ol Clothing and Furniture has been lost What this means to the children an to the matron and her staff can hardly be conveyed by mere words. 2.—NEW BUILDINGS. The matter of providing New Build ings has been receiving the carefu consideration of the Board, as ap pears by the last two annual re ports, and a New Buildings Fun has been created. In providing permanent accommod ation, the safety of the children is consideration of paramount import ancc, and this can only be secured i Buildings of Stone or Brick. 3.—THE COST. Of such Buildings on modern lines 1 roughly estim itod at from £SOOO t £7OOO, in addition to whieh it ma be necessary to purchase land. 4.—THE FINANCIAL POSITION, Tho income from the Board's En do,wments is fully absorbed in main ♦aining the 89 children in Home The numbers have increased eif <t 31st March, 1905, by 28, and for Ih current year, owing to such increaso the Board anticipates a debit balanc of expenditure over receipts. Thi will, of course, be increased by th expenses inevitably attendant upo the fire. ..To take any consirlerab). sum from the Capital for buildin purposes would very seriously hamp cr the work; of the Home, and preju dice tho well-being of the children. THE APPEAL OF THE CHILDBEI For tho sake of the good work done in past years, for the sake o the larger work to be done now an in the years to come, and above all in tho name of Christ, for the sale of His little cnes, wo appeal for help.
