V TABAKAKI JOCKEY CLUB. r CHIISTMAS MEETING—SECON D * day. r!t The Taranaki Jockey Club concluded >. ' Ha Christmas meeting on Wednesday, lit The weather, which appeared promis- '*' t'mg, dunged during the morning, the ["wind veering to the nor-west, and light < rim filling at interval* during the -• afternoon. The attendance wa* well I up to the average for a second day. r The Secretary, Mr Mussill Fleet- <*' wood, assisted by members of the ComBUtteo, conducted the meeting in a that left natrons no ground for t complaint, everything passing off within oat ■ hitelL Mr A. W. Badge occult pied ide Judge's box, and was always %»■ prompt withhis decisions. Mr A. G. ■ ■ Woods in most instances got the fields Ifiy in good lines. Mr J. 7. Stohr uted as time-keeper. 'During the afternoon the mm of £4871 was passed through the totalizator, nuking in aggregate of £9085, . ai increase of £903 as compared with last year. Ike handicapper, Mr B. 0. Pardy, had good reasons to b« highly satisfied with the result of his work. The Military Bind under the baton of Mr Q, Garry, rendered a choice selection , , of musical gems, which contributed in no small measure to the enjoyment of the afternoon's amusement. Mahfanui and Cyrano were with- ' drawn from the Mangotnlra Handicap, lea ring a field of seven in the mile nee. Fangaroa was made a hot favor- * He, Climax, Kaimcre and Flying Cloud being the best backed of the others. The public fancy got well away, but appeared to be hampered by Whakahaweft crossing her just as they passed the stand, and was never afterwards dangerous. Kaimere's successes were long overdue, his party having had a long series of disappointments. The Clipper and Showman declined their " engagements in the Electric Handicap. Tambourina was the public fancy, Sedgemnor and Muse being next in favour. Tambourina never got out of the reck, and the finish was left to Muse, Bototti and Cyrano. Star Bose was the only deflection from the New Plymouth j Handicap. Glenullin, Makikihi, and Maharanui had the most support. Glennllin made no race of it, the field being well Strang out at the finish. j Toddy was withdrawn from tin Sum- , mcr Handicap, and The Clipper was • insUlted an oddx-on favorite. He fiattrfed his backers' hopes right up to the -distance, but was then collar 3d by 1 Claremont, who finished very gamely ' under pressure. Weary Bill gave a 1 splendid exhibition of jnmping in the 1 Hurdle race, the top weight's success j beimg a most popular one. Bmreation, a stable mate of The ® dipper, had a strong following for the Welter, Slavey, Jean, and Cyrano also being well backed. Once more the pinlr and green eolors were defeated on the post, and Beereation's supporters lost 4« for every £. Cyrano's running im this event was a reversal of form compared with his performance in the Huitoki Plate the first day, on which occasion he was made a hot favorite. Cyrano's connections did not fancy his t chance and let him run for the stake i ■lone. Gleam was the best fancied of 1 the four starters in the Senrry, but 1 bickers were once more astiay, the I Wanganui owned Federation winning 1 with something to spare. . Glenullin and Showman were in- -j first aid seceq4 farcies in the R Handicap. The former justi- j confidence reposed in him by i ( fam making hacks of the opposition. £ The Loehiel colt will have to run in open company after the Opunakc meet- j.
