AUCKLAND NOTES. FBK FKESS ASSOCIATtOS. j ArcELASD, December 24. Paritutu's gallop yesterday morning is estimated very highly, and it is predicted that he will start as favorite for the Auckland Cup. Mahutonga was eased in the betting, bnt lie is all right, and his party fancy his chance. Quarryman is also well, and tho popular opinion is that Sir George Clifford's horse will prove to be Paritutu's most dangerous opponent. j

| SPORTING RESULTS. To-morrow's issue of the Taranaki Dailv News will be an essentia!!}sporting number, containing, as it will, full reports of all the race meetings, etc., held in the Colony to-day.

RANDOM NOTES. The Manawatu R.C. Spring meeting promises to be the most successful held in that district. The different stables have been severely taxed to provide accommodation for the visiting contingent of horses. Mr G. G. Stead will be represented by Eden and Savoury. The latter has been heavily supported in doubles with Pas Seul and Eden. F. Jones will ride Savoury in the Cup, and Pas Seal in the Awapunui Handicap if started. F. Tilley's team is a powerful one, consisting of Solution, Nova, Martello, Fusio, Delamere, St. Joe and Deiteriv. Si. Albert is stated to have improved since Woodvilie, and is very It. Certainty was scratched for the A.R.C. Railway Handicap at noon las Thursday. Sharshoot did a sensational gallop at Ellerflie last Thursday over six furlongs, beating King Billy by ten lengths, with St. Bill ten lengths behind King Billy. The time was lmin. Kijsecs., a record for the track With > Hewitt up Starshoot is sure to have a | strong following. Lady Annie is shaping in good style, and has apparently quite recovered from her accident.

The probable starters and riders in the Auckland Cup are as follows ! Mahutonga (J. Buchanan), Quarryman (V. Cotton), Paritutu (H. Gray), Gladstone (H. Sparb), Putty (B. Decley), Melodeon (F. Davis), Armistice (McKay). Zulieka (Erickson), Jewellery (Paramore), Heroism (Hewitt), Master Delavel, PuLipulii. Hewitt will have the mount on Starshoot in the Railway Handicap.

Melodeon and Coxswain were both adorned by the rogue's badge when racing at Woodville Ir-st week. A three-year-old sister to Emir, named Birida, was successful in the most important event at Warwick Farm recently. Turmoil, winner of the two-year-old event at Christchurch last week is by Royal Artillery out of Whirlwind. This is the first of that sire's progeny to earn distinction.

The pony Marissa succumbed to heart trouble at her owner's paddocks it Mangare. The Great Northern Derby and Great Northern Foal Stakes have never yet been won by any of Sir George Clifford's representatives. Can ! Kirriemuir and Gay Spark break the spcil ?

i A question of interest to sporting men at present io the Levant disqualification ca*e. Does the auiim of the Australian Jockey Club affect Levant outside their jurisdiction ?

Pushful, the favourite in the Stewards' Hack at Woodvillc, did not take any part in the race owing to Watt, his rider, getting kicked by Skye when lining up at tbe barrier. Elfrida was well supported by her connection at the Woodvillc meeting. She had been responsible for some good track work. The Sir Lancelot filly should be worth watching in her to-day's engagements. Bopa's connection are stated to have had a big win over the Woodvillc Handicap, the horse being heavily supported throughout the colony. The Wellington layers are said to have paid ont about £'3ooo.
