BOXING.
The New Plymouth representatives at.the Stratford Boxing Association's tournament acquitted themselves very well. The team of five men secured two firsts, for which gold medals were awarded, aud two acted as runners-up. A. Hvim won the heavy-weight championship, liealiug W. Dyne in Thursday night's heat. The " Post" remarks that neither was in good condition, anil both left their bodies too much exposed. At the finish a lot of heavy slogging was indulged in. W. Bridger met AV. Beadle in the novice class, which the reporter'described as an amateurish " go." Bridger defeated Cook in the final, in which the competitors aimed principally at the face, lu the middle-weight contest Smith (New Plymouth) met Brown, but was too rash tu his onslaught and was soon winded, though lie made a game and plucky light of it. Rvne and Bridges won gold medals and Smith and Cook silver medals. The team was in charge of Mr T. Touhv, who acted as second.
