The Borough Inspector reports that Hutu is no case of infectious disease in the Borough, though there are two cases outside 'which he is watching. An attempt by Cr Wilson to obtain a new Hnd up-to-date water cart for the Borough at Thursday's meeting was opposed by the Mayor, hut the mover intends to bring the matter up again. The death occurred at the Hospital on Friday morning of a young woman named Alarv Kjchardson, of New Plymouth, aged 30. She had previously been treated on two or three occasions at the Hospital. The South Eginoul; Committee is to call for tenders for a cottage at Dawson's Falls, price not to exceed £l2O. The Committee has a credit balance of £lls. The Government is to be asked for a grant of £I4OO for house and truck.

A. leading Harlcy Street nerve specialist told me (says a correspondent of " London Opinion ") that since women started the unwomanly and pernicious habit of cigarette smoking he has had many cases of nervous disorders on his hands, all traceable to this habit. He told me that when women start a habit they abuse it, and they smoke cigarettes in excess, He instanced one young woman who consumed twenty-live cigarettes per din-, the result being that she is uow in "a demented condition in a private asylum. Medical men affrce that if married women smoke their children are very unhealthy. Watch cigarette smokers aflerthey have smoked several cigarettes. They arc in a state of semi-in-toxiealion; tlieir speech becomes mumbled, hands'tremble, and nerves are partially numbed. 'People rave against the drink evil, hut cigarette! smoking does more harm than drink.
