At Port Chalmers to-day, Alfred Creddeson was charged with rape in < November, 1901, on his step daughter, j After hearing the girl's evidence and , (hero being no corroborative, tho Magistrate dismissed tho case. Accused was then charged with incest. In addition to the stepdaughter's evidence, who stated that accuaod attempted to assault her on August 23rd, but she ran into the room of her brother who went for the police, tho brother and constable gave evidence. For tho defenco tho point was raised that as the parties were not blood relations thoro was no offence. The Magistrate ruled that it'was for the Supreme Court to decide, and accused was committed for trial, bail being, allowed in £2OO, and two sarotios of' £IOO each. i
