BACKBLOCKS TEACHERS.
Mr J. H. Rice, teacher at the Whangamomona school, wrote as follows on December Ith to the Taranaki Education Board, aiul the letter came up at Wednesday's meeting:—" I see from the Education Act Amendment Act that my salary for next year will be £llO, as this year's average attendance will not average 21, I could not live on that salary, as I have a wife and family to support, and I also wish to pay 10 per cent, towards the Superannuntion Fund." Ho asked permission to apply for aro her position. Mr Monkhouie su ested that the Wliangaiuomona schools be amalgamated. There was now a good road from tho township to Mr liire's school. Children from Whitianga might also attend the school. It was a matter for Whangamomora people to decide. The school attendance was falling off, and they would not be able to get good teachers at the smaller salary. The matter was referred to Mr Monkhouse for his report.
