THE REFEREE FOR THE GLAMORGAN MATCH. DISPUTE AS TO HIS APPOINTMENT. MR DIXON CABLES FOll ADVICE. N.Z. UNION UPHOLDS HIS ACTION. I'ER I'KESS ASSOCIATION. Wellington, December 20. The following cablegram from the manager of the Now Zealand football te.im (Mr G. H. Dixon) was received, to-day by the Secretary "of the Now Zealand Rugby Union There is a deadlock relative to.the Glamorgan match, owing to Glamorgan insisting that the Welsh Union shall appoint

the referee. I protosted from the first. Do you agree that I should remain firm P There is a possible risk that we may have to abandon the match." The New Zealand Union has replied authorising Mr Dixon to stand firm. The Glamorgan match was to take place to-day or to-morrow. According to the laws of the game, the referee must be mutually agreed upon.

NEW ZEALAND V. ALL FRANCE London, December 19. The New Zealandcrs will play all France in Paris 011 January Ist.

THE BEDFORD MATCH. THE "DAILY MAIL'S " CRITICISM. London, December 19. The " Daily Mail" says "Bedford called to their aid the Irish International three-quarter MacLoar, Anderson the Northampton half, Palmer the Preston and Gloucester full-back, and the three-quarter Hudson. For a whilo the visitors appeared non-plussod with the wot ball, but having once Rot ■their legs, swept their opponents before them in irresistible fashion, ending in a severe gruelling.' The kicking at goal was not good,. except when Gillett operated. The New Zealanders might do well to consider if it is worth while risking chancos on tlie most unlikely plnce-kickers in the'team as they done in several recent matches, inasmuch as the attempts bordci on the ludicrous. Of course they are always assured of victory when they resort to this little hit of gallery work, but it is scarcely playing the game, and the spectators are just as anxious to see good placo kicking as a good bout of passing." ■ • ■

Praising Hunter the Mail siiys: His zig-zag, eel-like bursts for the goal line are quite unlike anything evor seen on the Rugby field'' His relentless passage through a thick sea of surging opponents is weird and uncanny He seems to be covered with soap from hca'd to foot from the ease with which he eludes the grasp of one strong, fleet man after another. He is indeed a dazzling star oE the brilliant southern constellation.
