The Orphan Home.a Parnell, Auckland. APPEAL. The disastrous fire that occurred at the Orphan Home, Parnell, Auckland on Sunday, September 17, will b fresh in the minds of the readers o this paper. This appeal is intended to make plain the extent of the loss, its effect upon the present condition of tho children, and the urgent nccessit for Funds to provido adequately an wisely for their future welfare. THE LOSS. Th» two Main Dormitories are ftb solutely destroyed, that is, the sleeping accommodation oi over 70 children. In addition, the Matron's Quarters, Stall Uiningroom, Sewing stress' Bedroom and Ho" pital arc totally destroyed, and, bosides this, a considerable quantity 01 Clothing and Furniture has been lost What this means to the children an to the matron and her staff can hardly be conveyed by mere words. 2.—NEW 11UILDINGS. Tho matter of providing New Build ings has been receiving the carefu consideration of tho Board, as ap pears by the last two annual re ports, and a New Buildings Fun has been created. In providing permanent accommod ation, the safety of the children Is consideration of paramount import ance, and this can only be secured i Buildings of Stone or Brick, 3.-THE COST, Of such Buildings on modern lines i roughly estimated at from £SOOO t £7OOO, in addition to which it ma be necessary to purchase land. 4.-TIIE FINANCIAL POSITION. Tho income from the Board's En dowments is fully rb..orbed in main laining tho 89 children in the Home The nui.iijers have increased sir.-* 31st March, 1»05, by 28, and for th current year, owing to such increase the Hoard anticipates a debit balnnc of expenditure over receipts.
