OBITUARY.

CAPTAIN KENNY/M.L.C, Blenheim, Decembor 13. Captain Courtenay William Aylmer Kenny, M.L.C., died at his residence, Queen Charlotte Sound, after a long illness. Ho served in tho Crimean war, and was present at the taking of Sebastopol. In the days of the Provincial Government he was a jCommissioner of Crown Lands for Marlborough.

Mil WILLIAM COTTIER, The news of the sudden dentil of Mr W. Cottier, which occurred about 4.30 on Wednesday afternoon, came as a great shock to the family and to the largo circle to whom Mr Cottier was known, and by whom ]>» was so highly osteemed. On Tuesday he was in town and apparently enjoying good health and spirits, but on Wednesday he was somewhat depressed, though he visited both his married daughters in the course of the morning. After dozing for a while in the afternoon he appears to have got up, but only to fall forward in a state of coma, Medina! aid was at once summoned, and everything possible done to assist towards recovery, but he never regained consciousness and passed away quietly and painlessly at the age of 65 years. Deceased was bom at Douglas, Isle of Man, and when quite a youth left home for the Australian gold diggings. After remaining therefor some years he came to this Colony, and in 18(>3, in company with Mr James Paul, he arrived at New Plymouth as a military settler m the troublous times. After the war he emba-ked in holcl-keeping here, his last venture being tho acquisition of tho Criterion Hotel, which for some years past ho has leased, and enjoyed a retired life. Ho leaves a widow (nee Grylls), four daughters, and four sons—all of whom aro married, flo join with numerous friends in expressing our heartfelt sympathy with the bereaved family. The death is announced of Air Putrick Mi phy, of tlio Wnirca road. He ™ admitted to the New Plymouth hospital about ten days ago, suffering from heart trouble. Mr Murphy was at one time licensee of the Breakwater Hotel, but latterly has followed farming pursuits. He leaves a' wife and family.
