FIRE ON THE WIMMERA.
THE VESSEL UNINJURED. PASSENGERS UNAWARE OF OUTBREAK. Received 13,12.20 p.m. Svdskv, December 13. A fire was discovered in tlie after hold of the Wimmera late ou Saturday night after the passengers had reared. The chief eng'neer, first and second officers, and boatswain located the P e among a number [of bales of flax. They took turns to go below with the hose, and after a couple of hours thoy extin(,iished tho fi -c without tjic passengers being awaro of the outbreak. The vessel sustained no damage, but sevc .'al bales of flax were burnt.
A CASE OP SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION.
Received 14, 1,1 a.m. Sydney, December 13, The fire is attributed to .spontaneous combustion of the flax. A quantity of the cargo in the vicinity of the flax was damaged by water.
