The disastrous fire that oeeorred at the Orphan Home, Parnell, Auckland pa Sunday, September 17, will b fresh in the minds of the readers o this paper. This appeal is intended to make plain the extent of the loss, its effect upon the present condition of the children, and the urgent necessit for Funds to provide adequately an wisely for their future welfare. Children from the districts wher this paper circulates have from tim to time been cared for in the Home well as a general claim upon you sympathies. 1.-THE LOSS. Thw two Main Dormitories are ab solutcly destroyed, that is, the sleeping accommodation of over 70 children. In addition, the Matron's Quarters, Staff Diningroom, Sewing room, Seamstress' Bedroom and Ho* pital are totally destroyed, and, besides this, a considerable quantity ot Clothing and Furnituro has been lost to the matron and her staff can hardly be conveyed by mere words. 2.-NEW BUILDINGS. ,Tho matter of providing New Build ings has been receiving tho carefu consideration of the board, ns ap pears by the last two -annual re ports, and a New Buildings Fun has been created. In providing permanent accommod ation, tho safety of tho children is consideration of paramount import ance. and this can only be secured i Buildings of Stone or Brick. 3.-THE COST. Of such Buildings on modern lines i roughly estimated at from £SOOO t £7OOO, in addition to which it ma be necessary to purchase le d. 4.-THE FINANCIAL, POSITION. Tho income from the Bcvd's En dowments is fully absorbed in main taining the 89 children in tiie Hot The numbers have increased sir .a 31st March, 1905, by 28, and for th current year, owing to such increase | the Board anticipates a debit balanc of expenditure over receipts. Thi will, of course,, be increased by th expenses inevitably attendant upon the fire. ..To take any consirierabl sum from the Capital for building purposes would very seriously hamp er the work, of the Home, and preju dice the well-being of the children. THE APPEAL OF THE CIIILDKEI For the sake of the good work done in past years, for the sake o the larger work to be done now an in the years to come, and above all in the name of Christ, for the sak of His little ones, wo appeal for help.
