Independent—Poole. DEFEATED MEMBERS OF LAST PARLIAMENT. Members of last Parliameat who los' their scats are— Government—Willis. Opposition Buchanan, Hawkins, Duthie, Herdinan, Laug, Moss, Vile, Russell. Independent—Bedford, Taylor. TARANAKI ELECTION. THE SCRUTINY. A careful and exhaustive scrutiny of the rolls used on election day at the various polling places in the Taranaki electorate was in pursuance of the provisions of the Electoral Act, 1905, made by the Returning Officer and his assistants in the presence of scrutineers at the Court House yesterday, occupying a period of eight hours. This is a statutory provision which is followed by a final count of the votes prior to the public declaration of the poll. The final count will be made on Monday.

Mr A. D. Banks, returning o(R----cer, lias received the following seamen's votes cast in the Taraniki election on Wednesday:—For Mr Bell, ringer 1, Mr Mills 7, and Mr Smith 8. Messrs Tiscli and Okey were unsup. ported by the sen-faring population that (lay, at least by the portion absent from New Flymouth that day.
