Addressing the crowd early this morning, Mr Seddon said he had never felt the slightest anxiety as to the result of the election. The final returns gave the Government 59, as against 13 Opposition. In conclusion, he said : " I hope the " Times' " board will be P photographed, and I hope some people 11 will read, mark, learn, and inwardly f digest, and understand that those who 'I do their duty by the people have noth. s ing to fear. They sneer at humanity, but I say there is a trait in humanity
that, when an injustice has been done j as has been done to me and mine, the people will not have it, and that has been shown throughout New Zealand to-day." SIR JOSEPH WARD OS* THE RESULT. [Pkh I'iikss Association.] 1 rsvnirtHiiiu, December 7. licgarding the elections, Sir J. Ward, referring lo iho-e who had gone under, said lie had information that pointed to their probable defeat. The election I had, he considered, beetm-great victory for the Government, and completely altered the House, but leaving the ' distinct Government and Opposition ' parties. i Men had lost seats that both sides i would regret to lose on personal grounds, but in politics they had to ; sink personal feelings. ' There was not a seat that rcraiucut lost,
