At the Theatre Royal to-night the fnniou.s St rami iTheutre Company will inaugurate a brief season with the inuch-talkcd-of faive i'oni |,| ! i V' "The J.P.," which will be presented under urrungenunt with Mr J. C. Williamson. It is dcscrißtl as a piece which has been construi-lid i i.;v its author to; create laughter by any and all moans, ami consequently is a veri table screamer. , 1 leaded by t ivo leading English gaiety stars in th« persons of Miss Florence Lleyd and Mr J. J. Itallas, illie company include Misses Aland Chetwynd, Flo rence Redfcrn,'; Mngda Kossmore, Madge Merrick, Nerah IVluney, air, I Austin, Messrs Aubrey. MallatieU, Gregan M'Mahon, Tom Cannam, Johnson Weir, etc. The plot is shortly the adventures of Caesar Montague, J.P., (the letters signifying both justice of the peace and jocular ,party. Caesar is both. At home he is eminently respectable staid and sober to a degree ; abroad at Boulogne lie is completely oppcsite. He is particularly anxious to stand well in the estimation of his nephew, i* to lw his "hefir,- provided he fails in .with the matrimonial arrangements made by his uncle on his Mia If. .Charlie 'has matrimonial arrangements of his own. He has been married on the I quiet to Flo >xi'ille, principal boy at the Bijou Theatre, whose ,'own particular friend is Kate Earlc, at the Gaietj Theatre, and wife of a low comedian, who fancies he( was ' born to play tragedy. The two ladies take the lead ill tho exposure of the pious iraud, who is ever addressed as the J-P., and who has had a bad time, particularly under Hie treatment of Flo Neville, who, putting herself i/v male attire, assumes the style and title of Captain Itattler, a guy dog, and lures Ithe man on to "brandies and sodas and a little of nap, in which)he or she tries* to, Beeco hjm of all his money, seeing that Charlui umlerneath the \table arranges the cards. Such is a brief outline of this amusing comedy and thq doings of the J.l'. »and his friends, and there seems little doubt that crowded houses will rule throughout the season, as the demand for seats at McKinnon Bain's has beett exceptionally heavy. The company arrives this morning.
