Kcnatia, an Arab rccidiviste, found guilty of the murder of a fellow prisoner at the Isle of Pines, was. publicly guillotined in the presence of 1000 spectators at daylight this morning in the Public Square of Noumea, in order to serve as an example to the Arab population. The culprit was brought to tho scaffold in a vehicle escorted by gendarmes. Tho guillotine, with <i coffin alongside, was Surrounded by 100 soldiers. The usual executioner died, and his successor, through nervousness, bungled the affair, onty decapitating tlie culprit after the ltnife had fallen threo times. Tho operation occupied 15 minutes.
