THE CYCLING FATALITY AT A CROSSING.
INQUEST AND VERDICT. (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Nov. 19. An inquest was hold on Saturday touching the death of Alfred Lawson lVice who was killed liy being run into by a train while he was tiding a motor bicycle. The evidence showed that the warning hell at Kensington was set going as soon sis the train left C'avershain, and the crossing-keeper showed a red light in each direction, Deceased was seen riding in the direction of the crossing just about mid night at a high rate of speed, and it is supposed he attempted to cross before the train, and, seeing the danger when the engine was on hint, swerved to the right, the engine striking tho ' rear wheel.
Mi'Hanlon, who appeared for the relatives of deceased, questioned the driver of the twin with a view to showing that the tablet system interfere I with his giving propel- attention to flie line ahead and to the Westinghouse biake. He said he did not blame tho driver, who was a careful man, but the tablet system should bo till en autonia:,icallv.
The jury returned a verdict that deeased was killed by an accidental fall from a motor bicycle, but there was • ■ot sullieiei t evidence to show how the accident occurred. They recommended that the railway authorities be uiged to take fit ther precautious for the safety of the public at Iv nsington .Mossing.
