A IiATLWAY EXTENSION OPENED. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Nov. 17. A party of about three hundred excursionists proceeded to Kaipar.-i Flats to-day for the opening of the railway extension, another hundred boarding the train at, Ilelensville. The Premier joined the party at Kaipara Mats. '
In declaring the line open, Mr Seddon said the whole vote of £BO,OOO would be spent-, ami as nuu'-ii move as could be profitably expended. The whole cost of the extension of the Holeusville northwards line would be £174,600. Kefeiring to the necessity that existed for improved roads, he said tlie metal should be carried by rail at a nominal rate for local bodies and farmers. Tlie Premier, replying to the cry of " a mile a year," said that two sections had been opened in six months, and he hoped to come up annually to open a section. He stated that IGO men were now employed on the work, and that the surveyors had completed the survey to Hofcea, the work being put in hand further ahead. The Premier, who was heartily cheered, was entertained at lunch by the residents, who gathered to the number of a couple of hundred,
Mr Seddon addressed a largo meeting at Onelmnga to-night. on the lines of previous speeches. A vote of thanks aud confidence in' the Government was moved and declared to he cariicd.
