The Orphan Home, Parncfl, Auckland. APPEAL.

The disastrous fire that occurred at tho Orphan Home, rarncll, Auckland, on Sunday, September 17, will bo fresh in tho minds of the readers of this paper. This appeal is intended to make plain the extent of the loss, its effect upon the present condition of the children, and the urgent necessity for Funds to provide adequately and wisely for their future welfare. Children from the districts where this paper circulates have from time to time been cared for iu the Home, hich has, therefore, a particular as ell as a general claim upon your [ sympathies,

I.—TIIE LOSS. Iht> two Main Dormitories arc absolutely destroyed, that is, the sleeping accommodation of over 70 children. In addition, the Matron's Quarters, StalT Dimngroom, Sewing room, Seamstress' Bedroom and Hospital are totally destroyed, and, besides this, a considerable quantity of Clothing and Furniture has been lost. What this means to the children and to the matron and her stall can hardly be conveyed by me/e words. 2.—NEW DUILDISGS.

The matter of providing New Buildings lias been receiving the careful consideration of the Board, as appears by Uio last two annual reports, <tn<l a Now Buildings Fund has ton created. In providing permanent accommodation, the safety of the children is a consideration of paramount importance, and this can only he secured iu Buildings of Stone or Brick. 3.—T113-: COST.

Tlic numbers have ii'creased sir.&e itJst March, I'JOS, by US, and for tho current year, owing to such int thn Hoard anticipates a debit b of expenditure over receipts. This will, of course, be increased by the expenses inevitably attendant upon thu lire. .To take any considerable sum from the Capital for building purposes would very seriously hamper the work, of the Home, and prejudice'the well-being of the children.

The New ISuilding Fund Account now stcntls at £lllO. The insurance on the lluilding destroyed is £l2r>o. Amount available is £2300. Rough estiinn.to ot amount still required for liuildiiiK is £.4040 The Home has not received any Government subsidy for the last twenty years. It has been already stated that the Boaid had begun to form a Building Fund. Had it proved necessary to make a Public Appeal, in tire future, for that fund, the amount asked for would have been comparitivcly small NOW THERE IS NO ALTERNANATIVE : THE APPEAL HAS TO GO FORTH TO-DAY FOR £SOOO,

THE APPEAL OF THE CHILDREN For the sake of Hie good work done in past years, for the sake of tho larger work to be done now and in tlie years to come, and above all, in tho name of Christ, for the sake of His little cues, wo appeal for help.
