The Orphan Home, Panned, Auckland. APPEAL. -The disastrous fire that oWnrred at Uio Orphan Home, Panicll, Auckland cm Sunday, September 17, will be fresh i n the minds of the readers oi this paper. This appeal is intended to maka plain the extent of the loss, its effect upon the present condition of the children, and the urgent necessity for Funds to provide adequately and wisely for their future welfare. Children from the districts where this paper circulates have from time to tune been cared for in the Home which has, therefore, a particular as well as a general claim upon yourl sympathies. I 1.-THE LOSS. Thb two Main Dormitories are absolutely destroyed, that is, the sloping accommodation of over 70 children, in addition, the Matron's j Quarters, Staff IHningroom, Sowing room, Seamstress' Bedroom nml Hospital are totally destroyed, and, besides this, a considerable quantity of Clothing and Furniture has been lost. What this means to the children and to the matron and her stall can hardly be conveyed by meie words. 2.-NEW BUILDINGS. I The matter of providing New Buildings has been receiving the careful consideration oi tho Board, as appears by the last two annual reports, und a M u \v Buildings Fund has been created. In providing permanent accommodation, the safety of the children is a consideration of paramount importonce, anfl this can only be secured in Buildings of Stono or Brick. 3.-TIIE COST. Of such Buiidings on modern lines is roughly estimated at from £SOOO tc £7Uf.-0, in addition to which it may be necessary to purchase land. 4.-TIIK FINANCIAL POSITION. '• The income from the Board's En- 1 dowments is fully absorbed in main-. taining Iho 89 children in the Home. I The numbers have ii'creasiil sj 31st March, l'JOo, by 28, and for the current year, owing to such increase,' the lloai-d anticipates a debit balance of expenditure over receipts. This will, of course, be increased by the expenses inevitably attendant * upon tho lire. .To take any considerable sum from the Capital for building purposes would very seriously hamper the work of the Home, and prejudice the well-being of the children. Tho New Building Fund Account now stands at JilllO. The insurance on the Building destroyed is £1250. Amount available is £2300. Hough nstimato of amount still required for Building is £4640 The Home has not received any Government subsidy for the last twenty years. It has been already stated that the Bontd had 'begun to form a Building Fund. Had it proved necessary tc make a Public Appeal, in the future, for that fund, the amount asked for would have been comparitivcly small NOW Til EKE IS NO ALTERS ANATIVE: THE APPEAL HAS TO GO FORTH TO-DAY FOR ,£SOOO, THE APPEAL OF THE CHILDREN For the sake of the good work done in past years, for the Sake of the larger work to be done now and in the years to come, and above all, in the name of Christ, for the sake of His little cues, we appeal for help. CHARLES M. NELSON, Chairman. W. E. GILLAM, W. W. Hill. R. B. Morn I confidently com. to the charitable consideration < those who care for Christ's lilt: encs. J am assured that the Orpha Roard will take all wants ii to consideration in their plans fc tho future. M. n, AUCKLAND. September 22, NOTH.—Subscriptions will be glad I.V received by any member of the Board or by the Secretary, Mr W. G U Jnckman, Fort. Street, Auckland Vr at tho office of this paper.
