Fire Brigade Demonstration.

Kot the first time for some years the Taranaki Fire- Brigades met in competition on the King's Birthday, the venue i.ieiug the Tauuiata Park at Hlthain. All the district brigades with the exception of Patea, most of the members of this team being down with 'influenza,were adequately represented, and the competitions were carried out oil useful and instructive lines. '1 he attendance was not very moderate, no doubt due to the threatening aspect of the weather, though fortunately the rain kept off until the programme of events had been almost completed. However, tlie demonstration, which was carried out under the auspices of the Kit ham Brigade, was undoubtedly successful from the firemen's point of view. The

sicretarial arraiigcim lits were very capably carried out by Mr James l\icLeoil (Kitham), and the following officials gave every satisfaction in the discharge ol their diitivs Keieree, ex-Cap I. Hal tie (Waiiganuij ; judges, Capt. Kivell (Stratford'), ex-Lieut. Carringtoii (New Plymouth), ex-Fire-man Dowling and Kicretaiy Kobbins (liawera) ; examiners, Capt. F. C. (Irifliths (Fitzroy), l.icut. McNiveii (Hawer-a) ; time keepers, Messrs J. liennett (New Plymouth). Dr. Harrison, Messrs llyde and Wilkinson (Kliliam). The programme, which was start id at lioon, -included five coinpetitions, in which a large number of firemen were engaged. The contests were very keenly fought -out, and the manner iin which the younger brigades held their own was pleasing to the spectators.
