Mr Scrivener, of the New Zealand Times literary staff', has been spending a brief holiday in New Plymouth. lie leaves for Wellington this morning. Mr A. K. Sykes Went North l.y the Rotoiti last night. regret to record the death from heart disease of ex-Staff SergeantMajor Castles, which occurred at Stratford on Tuesday. Deceased was for many years drill instructor at Dunediii. He formerly belonged to the Durham Regiment, and served in the Crijinean and New Zealand wars. He was about sixty-five years of age. Before going to Dunedin he Was stationed for some time at New Plymouth. He resigned from the Defence Department ahout Ave years ago, and .since then he lias resided in Duncdiu. He was on a visit to Stratford, and a few days ago became i-H, but rallied, and was able to get upon Monday. He, however, had another seizure about 2 a.m. on Tuei- ; day, which proved fatal. The funeral takes place on Friday a! the Henui Cemetery, 0 n the arrival oi the 10.15 Iraiu.
