Hi;\ t"BOM THE SHOP THAT SAVES YOUIi MONEY, IT IB RETFORD'S 8"U Agent— • Oe»o» «treat, NEW PLYMOOTh. WEHTUEIM aKWING UAOHINB The Orphan Home, Parneli, Auckland. APPEAL. The disastrous lire that occnrred at tlio Orphan Home, Darnell, Auckland, on Sunday, Scptcmhcr 17, will be fresh in the minds of the readers of this paper. This appeal is intended to make plain the extent of the loss, its effect upon tho present condition of thu children, and the urgent necessity for Funds to provide adequately and wisely for their future wolf arc. Children from the districts where this paper circulates have from time to lime been cored for in the Home, which lias, therefore, a particular as well as a general claim upon your sympathies. 1.-THE LOSS. Tho two Main Dormitories are absolutely destroyed, that is, the sleeping accommodation of over 70 children. In addition, the Matron's Quarters, Stall' Diningroom, Sewing room, Seamstress' Bedroom and Hospital are totally destroyed, and, besides this, a considerable quantity of Clothing and Furniture has been lost. What this means to the children and to the matron and her stuff can hardly bo conveyed by mere words. 2.—NEW BUILDINGS. Tho matter of providing New Buildings has been receiving tho careful consideration of the Board, as appeals by tho last two annual reports, -and a New Buildings Fund has been created. In providing permanent accommodation, the safety of the children is a consideration of paramount import--3.-TIIE COST. Of such Buildings on modern lines is roughly estimated at from £SOOO tc. £7OOO, in addition to which it may be necessary to purchase land. Tho income from the Hoard's Endowments is fully absorbed in maintaining tho 89 children in the Home. The numbers have increased since Mist March, li)0o, by 28, and for the current, year, owing to such increase, the Board anticipates a debit balance of expenditure over receipts. This will, ol course, be increased by the expenses inevitably attendant upon the lire. .To take any considerable sum from the Capital for building purposes would very seriously hamper the work of the Home, and prejudice the well-being of the children, The New Building F,md Account now stands at £lllO. The insurance on the Building destroyed is £12.">0. Amount available is £2:>,f>o. Hough estimate of amount still required for Building is £4OIO The Home has not received any Government subsidy for tho last twenty years. It has been already stated that the Hoard had brigun to form a Building Fund. Mad it proved necessary tc mako a Public Appeal, in tile future, for that fund, the amount asked for would have been comparitively small NOW THEUE IS NO ALTEHNANATIVE: THE APPEAL HAS TO GO FORTH TO-DAY FOJi £sooo< THE APPEAL OF THK CIULDIIEN Eor the sake of the good work dotie in past years, for tho sake of thu larger work to be done now and in the years to come, and above all, in the name of Christ, for the sake of His little cues, we appeal for help.
