The Orphan Home, Parneli, Auckland. appeal. The disastrous fire that occurred at the Orphan llomc, Parnell, Auckland, on S,imday, September 17, will bo fresh in the minds 6f the readers of this paper. this appeal is intended to make plain tho extent of the loss, its eftect upon the present condition of tho children, and the urgent necessity for Funds to provido adequately and wisely for their future welfare. Children from tho districts where this paper circulates have from time io time been cared for in the Home, which has, therefore, a particular as well as a general claim upon your sympathies.

I.—THE LOSS. Thu two Main Dormitories are absolutely destroyed, that is, the sleeping accommodation of over 70 children. In addition, the Matron's Quarters, Staff Diuingrooin, Sewing room, Seamstress' Bedroom rind Hospital are totally destroyed, and, besides this, a considerable quantity of Clothing; an<l Furniture has been lost. What this means to the children and to the matron and her stall' can hardly be conveyed by mo/e words.

2,—NEW BUILDINGS. Till! matter of providing Now Uuildings has been receiving tho careful consideration of Uio Roarcl, as appears h.v I lie last two annual reports, und a New Buildings Fund has been created. In providing permanent accommodation, tlie safety of the children is a consideration of paramount importance, and ( his can only be secured in Buildings of Stono or Brick. It.—THE COST Of such Buildings on modem lines is roughly estimat ed at from iioOOO U £71)00, in addition t.o which it may be necessary to purchase land. 4.—THE FINANCIAL. POSITION. The income from the Board's Endowments is fully absorbed in maintaining tho 89 children in the Home. The numbers have increased since .'3lst March, 1<)05, by 28, and for the current year, owing to such increase, the Board anticipated a debit balance of expenditure over receipts. This will, of course,, be increased by the expenses inevitably attendant upon tho tire. .To take any considerable Bum from the Capital for building purposes would very seriously lvani{>cr the work, of the Home, and prejudice tho well-being of the children. The New Building Fund Account now stands at £lllO.

The insurance on the Building destroyed is £]2oo. Amount available is £2!S(>O. Ttough estimoto of amount still required for i.s £4040 The Home has not received any Government subsidy for the last twenty years. It has bean already stated thai the Hoaid had 'begun to form a Huilding Fund. Had it proved necessary to make a Public Appeal, in the future, for that fund, the amount ashed for would have been coniparitively small NOW TIIEJiE IS NO ALTEUNANATIVE : THE APPEAL HAS TO GO I'OKTII TO-DAY FOR LEAST THE APPEAL OF THE CHILDREN For the sake of the good work done in past years, for the sake of the larger work to be done now and in the years to come, and above all, in the name of Christ, for the sake of llis little ones, we appeal for help. CHAItLES M. NELSON, Chairman. W. E. GILLAM, Vice-Chairman. Win. Cakier. A. Littler. Geo. MacSlurray. T. Charter. G. A. Carver. W. W. Ilill. G. 11. Ashton, It. Ji. Morrow. A. V. Macdonald. Hubert Walker. Win. Jeffery. F. Thos. Word. Carlton Ilay. <l. J. TUNKS. Hon. Treasurer. I confidently commend this appeal to the charitable consideration of those who care for Christ's litll nies. I am assured that the Orphan •Hemic Hoard will talce all wants in to consideration in their plaus fo thu future. M. ». AUCKLAND. Hishopscourt., September 22, 1005. NOTK.—Subscriptions will be glad ly received hy any member of the Hoard or by Ihe Secretary, Sir W. G V. Jackman, Fort Street, Auckland K at the ollice of this papor.
