■a ' - OPENING OF THE SEASON."*" After two postponements, the opening uf the season on Thursday afternoon was bailed with pleasure by the cricketing fraternity, despite t lie laei uf a showery afternoon anil soilden grounds, which militated against a good display. Only one senior match was playid, (be Canington Hoad team journeying to Inglewood. The visitors went in first and put up D.'l runs before being disposed of, which was fair in view of the stale of the ground. livnnessy played a creditable innings for 29 not out. The home team had made' 86 for the loss of six wickets wffrn linie was called. Car-i'ington Road "A" juniors met "B" met on the latlcr's ground. Inwas a howlers' day out, as the visitors succumbed in the first innings for 27, Avery (8) being the highest scorer. Waitara made a n.,ife indifferent display, with a tally of II), of which l'rosser contribute;! 0. H-. McKwan secured seven wickets and Avery three. Inglevvojd and Carriuglcn Road "IV 1 - met on the laltef't ground. Inglcwnod went in lirst and put up 59, mainly contributed by Woodhead (30) not out, anil Marsh (15). Saunders secured six wickets for 21, and Bullock four for 32. Carringlon Road had made 52 for the loss of seven wickets when- time was called, Bullock (23) and Rcid (8) being the highest scorers. The uncomplefed matches will be played off to a finish at the conclusion of the first round of fixtures.
CARIUNGTON ROAD v. INGLEWOOD SENIORS. Last Thursday the Carringlon Road, Cricket Club travelled to Inglewood lo play theiivftrs-t match for the sca J son. Owing to the rain the game was not as enjoyable as it should have been, play being stopped on several occasions. F. C. Robertson captained the visitors, and Crorabic the home team. The former winning the toss, elected to bat. The visitors made a bad start, losing two of their first, men for 10 runs, but, thanks to and Jordan, the total was a fair one.. Hennessey went in one wicket down, and carried his bat. F. Robertson bad hard luck in being run out, through slipping on the wet ground. The home team made an excellent start, Crombie and Gudgeon putting on -1-1 for the fall of the first wick'et. Tucker and Clegg were the not outs when lime was called, the former having 15 to his credit made in good style!
