The Orphan Home, Parnell, Auckland. APPEAL. 'Vita disastrous lire that, occurred at tho Orphan Home, I'aniL'll, Auckland, on Sunday, September .17, will bo fresh in the minds of the renders of this paper. This appeal is intended to make plain the extent of the loss, its effect upon the present condition of thn children, and the urgent necessity for Funds to provide aderumtely and wisely for their future welfare. Children from the districts where this paper circulates have from time to time been caiod for in the Homo, which has, therefore, a particular as well as a general claim upon your sympathies. 1.-TJIE LOSS. The two Main Dormitories are absolutely destroyed, that is, the sleeping accommodation of over 70 children. In addition, the Matron's Quarters, Staff IMniugroom, Sewing room, Seamstress' Bedroom «ud Hospital are totally destroyed, and, besides this, a considerable (pianUly of Clothing and Furtiituro has been lost. What this moans to the children and to the matron and her stall can hardly be conveyed by mure words. 2.—NEW BUILDINGS. Tim matter of providing New Buildings has been receiving the careful consideration of tho Hoard, as appears, by tlio last two annual reports, -and a New Buildings Fund has been created. In providing permanent accommodation, the safety of the children is a consideration of paramount importance, and this can only be secured iu Buildings of Stono or Brick. Of such Buildings on modern lines is roughly estimated at from £SOOO U £7OCO, in addition Lo which it may be ne'-essary to purchase land. 4.-TIIU FINANCIAL POSITION. Tho income from the Board's Endowments is fully absorbed in maintaining tho 80 children in the Home. The numbers have increased since 31st March, 1005, by 28, and for tho current year, owing to such increase, the Board anticipates a debit balanco of expenditure over receipts. This will, of course, be increased by tho expenses inevitably attendant upon Ihu lire. .To take any considerable sum from the Capital for building purposes would very seriously hamper the work of the Home, and prejudice the well-boinc of the children.

ihe r\cw Tluilding Fund Account now stands at £lllO. The insurance on the Building destroyed is £1250. Amount available is £23rto. Hough estimate of amount still required for HuildiiM? is £41540 The Home has not received any (loveniment subsidy tor the last NATIVE : THE AITICAL HAS TO (30 FORTH TO-DAY FOR
