In 1897 lie was chosen by the Otago Ivducation Hoard to fill the position of vice-principal of the Training Collegit and Normal Schj-jwl (5511 scholars). This position lie held until tho Hid of 1901. lie also supervised the Model School, and took part -in the ■general oversight or the. students. While vice-principal he gained the H.Sc. degree, awl undertook a postgraduate course in zoology. In 1902 lie entered the service of the Wauganui Education Hoard as head master of the Palmcrston District/ High School, and eventually worked up to Chief Inspector of .Schools. During 1904 and 19115 he visited the United States and Canada to 'investigate the methods nsed in three countries. The results of -his observations are contained in a pamphlet published on his letnin, "Some Aspects of Kduca-

Mrs Nathaniel, Sutherland, who died at. Wellington en Friday, aged !)ll years, was one of tile pioneer settlers of the colony.
