The Orphan Home, Parnell, Auckland. APPEAL. Tlie ilisnslroi tho Orphan U fl on Sunday, plain the extent of the. loss, its elect upon the present comlitien of tho children, and thu urgent necessity for Funds to provide, adequately and wisely for their future 'welfare.

1-THE LOSS. The two Main Dormitories arc absolutely destroyed, Unit is, the sloping accommodation of over 70 children. In addition, the Matron's Quarters, Stall Diningrooin, Sewing room, Seamstress' Bedroom ami Hospital are totally destroyed, and, besides this, a considerable quantity of Clothing ami Furniture lias been lost. What this means to the children and to the matron and her stall' can hardly be conveyed by mcie words. 2.—NEW BUILDINGS. Tho matter of providing New Buildings has been receiving tho careful consideration of tho Board, as appears by tho last two annual rets, -and a New Buildings Fund been created. In providing permanent accommodation, the safety of tho children is a consideration of paramount importance, and this can only be secured in Buildings oi Stono or Brick. 3.-THE COST. Of such Buildings on modern lines is roughly estimated at. from £SOOO ts £7OOO, in addition to which it may be necessary to purchase laud. 4.-THB FINANCIAL POSITION. Tho income from the Boat's Endowments is fully absorbed in main-; taining the 89 children in the Home. The numbers have increased since) 31st March, 1905, by 28, and for the current year, owing to such increase, the Board anticipates a debit balanco of expenditure over receipts. This will, of course* be increased by tho expenses inevitably attendant upon the (ire. ..To take any considerable sum from the Capital for building purposes would very seriously hamper tho work, of the Home, and prejudice the well-being of the children. The New Building Fund Account now stands at £lllO. The insurance on the Building destroyed is £1250. Amount available is £2300. ltuugh estiinnlo of amount still required for Building is £-1040 The Home has not received any Government subsidy for the last Tt has been already slated that the Board had 'begun to form a Building Fund. Had it proved necessary to make a Public Appeal, in the future, for that fund, the amount asked for would have been compariUvcly small NOW TIIEKE IS XO ALTEP.XANATIVE: THE APPEAL HAS TO 00 FOIiTH TO-DAY FOJi LKAST £SOOO, EAL OF TUB CHILDREN for tho. sake of CIIAHLES M.
