Sergeant Haddrcll stated that a crowd of Maoris cumc into town Saturday after Saturday, and being supplied with liquor until partly intoxicated they became noisy and .quarrelsome. It was time such behaviour was put ,a stop to and the present case would act as a warning. He suggested that a prohibition order would have a salutary effect. Asked if he knew the meaning of a prohibition order, William showed a somplete knowledge of the subject with the terse reply "No more drink'." He strongly objected to such an order.as he was not drunk at the time and bis brother was the aggressor.. The latter signified his consent to such an order being issued against him.

Constable Woods was called and he gave, evidence that he had known (he brothers for Ihe last two years, and had jit-en seen them under the influeenee of drink.
