Slander Suit and a Horsewhip.
A sensational U'ial lias been i'oiicUulctl in Hie Calcutta High Court, in which a young lOuiopcan lady named Miss Uose Mary Mell sued Mr W. 11. Lee, Sessions Judge of I'tirnea, foi' slander. The slander consisted in the allegation that Miss MeU, whose position in the station was one of those nvilcd to meet Lord Ctiizon when he last visited Mymchsingh, ha:l compromised herself Willi the Rajah of Mymensingh. It was prowl that, M l ' Lee had lent his authority to ii.moins about lint lady originating with a missionary and a club secretary, who the Court found to Ok- persons entitled to very -little credit. The lady heard of the matter, and had a stormy iuurview with Air Lee, i u the presence, of her uncle, the proceedings ending in a seullle, in which Miss MeU used' a whip upon what her counsel described as "the sacred face or the Sessions Judge."
