A Characteristic Protest. BOMBAY, Oct. 17. The partition of Bangal was quietlyeffected. (Received Oct. 18, 9.18 p.m.) BOMBAY, Oct. 18. As a protest against the partition of the province, the Bengalise spent a day in universnl fasting and mourning, the bazaars being closed.
