The crew and two passengers named Elwell and his wife ncrlvcu in boats safely at the Solomons on Sept. 3. Tho Susquehanna left N'ew Caledonia on -Aug. '2'J for Delaware breakwater with u cargo of chrome wrc. She ran into trad weather shortly after. When a coupla oi days out tbo barque opened and gradually filled with water.
At a consultation o/ tho officers it was decided to abandon the vessel. A heavy sea was running-, f>ut after much difficulty they succeed'd in launching the boats and gratingoil safely aboard. They Ihrn shaped theil course for the Solomons. 500 miles distant. The njay occupied a week. They suffered gn-al privations owing to this trad weather and » short supply oi food ami water, 'but all Ih> haved splendidh, especially Mrs Elwell.
When last! seen the Smiruchanna was fast settling down.
