The Orphan Home, Parried, Auckland. APPEAL. The disastrous fire that occurred at the Orphan Home, Fainell, Auckland, oil Sunday, September 17, will l, c fresh in thu niiiids of the readers of this paper. This appeal is intended to make plain the v.xtvot of the loss, its effect upon the present condition of the children, and the urgent necessity for Funds to provide adequately and wisely for their future welfare. Children from the districts where this paper circulates have from time to time been cared for in the Homo, which has, therefore, a particular as 1.-THE LOSS. The two Main Dormitories are absolutely destroyed, that is, the sleeping accommodation of over 70 children. In addition, the Matron's Quarters, Staff Diningroom, Sewing room, Seamstress' Bedroom ami Hospital are totally 'destroyed, and, besides this, a considerable quantity of Clothing ami Furniture has been" lost. What this moans to the children and to the matron and her staff can hardly be conveyed by mere words. 2.-XEW BUILDINGS. The matter o{ providing New Buildings 'has been receiving Ihu careful consideration of the Hoard, as apIH'ars by till, Inst two annual reports. «ind a New Buildings Fund has been created. In providing permanent accommodation, the safety of the children is a consideration of paramount importance, and this can only be secured in Buildings of Stone or Brick. •'l.-THE COST. Of such Buildings on modern lines is roughly estimated at from £."000 U £7OOO, in addition to which it may be necessary to purchase land. 1.-THE FINANCIAL POSITION. Tha income from the Board's Endowments is fully absorbed in maintaining the. 89 children in the Homo. The numbers have increased since .list March, liK),",, by 28, and for thu current year, owing to such increase, the Board anticipates a debit balance of expenditure over receipts. This will, of course, lje increased by the expenses inevitably attendant upon the fire. .To take any considerable sum from the Capital for building purposes would very srriously hamper the work, of the Home, and prejudice the well-being of the children. The New Building Fund Account now stands at XIIIO. Tho insurance on the Building destroyed is £1530. Rough estimate amount still ing is £lOlO It has been already statisl thai the Board had bngun to form a Building Fund. Hail it proved necessary tc mako a I'ublic Appeal, in the future, for that fund, the amount asked for would have Ixvn comparitively small. NOW THFHE IS NO ALTEKNANATIVF. : THE APPEAL HAS TO tiO FOUTU TO-BAY FOR £SOOO. THE APPEAL OF THE CHILDREN For the sake of the good work done in past years, for the sako of tho larger work to be'done now ami in the years to come, and above all, in tha name of Christ, for the sake of His little cues, we appeal for Win.
