The water was encroaching on the ' Tariki Road near Uymonil and I Jones' mill, and the planting of wili lows was advised as 'a precautionary measure. The wet weather was responsible for workling -holes in tho .' Tariki Road, and, being half a mile I from metal, a ri'(|Ucst was made for > permission Id employ n dray for a > couple of -days. The recommendations were agreed to.

Hill to Slippery Point, and 100 yds to Swanson's flat. The cost was estimated at 8s a yard for crushed nietnl, about tts a yard out of the Durham lioad pit. and about 10s for handbroken river stone. As no tenders 'were seccived for Carting metal on tliv -Zfig-zajj;, the foreman was authorised to employ a carter by the day.

A letter was received from the Treasury | requesting a statement when the half year's interest would be paid to Che credit of the public account. The collection of -the rates rested . entirely with the Council, and the Treasury could not recognise any arrangement thai miay have been-agreed upon between 'the Council and the Kgniont County Council. The Department had received information that some of the I ratepayers had ili-terminr-d to resist Hie payment of the rates levia-blc under the loan or loans raised for the Kit hum Koad. and that the Council 'had not cared to collect the rates in conse(pivnce. If the ratepayers refused, a test case should be taken 'into Court and the matter threshed out. Messrs Turnbull (Chairman) and French waited on the Council on behalf of the Waitara, West Road Heard and in recognition of the. Board's outlay in snaking the deviation of Te Arei Road 'in connection with tho Waiongoiva bridge, a grant-of £3O towards the cost: was .made by the Council. SALE OF PIjAXT. Thtf Chairman reported having sold the old stone-breaking plant to Messrs Kyngdoiv and Co. for X3OO on terms, agreed upon. The Chairman's 'action .was confirmed. THANKS. The Secretary of the Fitzroy Fire Hrigade forwarded a! resolution ol thanks for the Council's action in granting £lO towards the funds wi the brigade.
