Obituary.
An old and well known identity in the person of Captain Henry Rogers' passed away at an early hour on Friday, at his residence in lCliot Street. Deceased, who succumbed to ill-health al the age of 75 years, was a native ol St. Jolm, Newfoundland,, ami in his youth followed a seafaring life. He was attracted to Victoria in 1852 by the gold fever, and was afterwards on the Fraser River, Montana, and Virginia Camp goldlields in America. Subsequently he returned to sea in a vessel of lvis own, which was driven ashoro in a gale of! Nova Scotia. Alter a stay in England, he came to the colonies again. He lived for some twelve, months in, Tasmania, and arrived in New Zealand in 1873. Remaining at Christchurcb till 1879, Captain Rogers came lo New PlyI mouth, where lie has resided since, lisi t,le cxcc !"i o| i of a period spent [at Whangarei. He was well known some veais ago in New Plymouth public affairs, bill fop, a .long tim« prior to death,, deceased had lived a jetired life, owing (o the infirmities, incidental to old age. He leaves a widow, and also a nephew, Mr. 11. A. Ainsworth, of this town. I
