The work of the Taranaki Kducaiion Board lias considerably increased of late years. The voluninous reports and correspondence, and the multitudinous matters requiring attention, furnish material for several hours' hard work. As it is impossible for the country members to attend before 11 a.m., the Board arc unable to get through the business properly in one day, consequently matters are rushed through without mature consideration. In future, howj ever, this will be obviaecd, as the Board decided, at Wednesday's meeting, to extend the meeting over two days, commencing at 7.3 ft p.m. on the fourth Tuesday in each month, and continuing at 0.3(1 a.m. the following day.

Daniels was coveyed to the hospital, and wan in a critical condition. The practice of boys Waiting on business people with subscription lists lor special objects has become so common in New Plymouth that an outcry is being made against the infliction. If societies, churches, etc., want to "raise the wind" by subscription, they should make out proper lists, and place them in the hands of accredited agents. Some discussion took place at Wednesday's meeting ot the Taranaki Kducation Board on Mrs Dougherty's | motion "That in the best interests of education the Board permit the Chief Inspector (Air W. R Spencer) to vjsil America and grant £IOO for his expenses." Members appeared to think the results would not be commensurate with the outlay. Difficulty would also be experienced in carrying on the work during Mr Spencer s absence. It was mentioned thatthe Wanganui Inspector had circulated a report on his trip to America, and a further report on the same subject would to some extent be merelv duplication. The motion was lost by a large majority.

A telegram, received last mgnl, states that some friction has arisen iretwe'en the Advisory Board of the Brunncr disaster fund and the PuHic Trustee. It seems that an old man, named Parsons, who lost a son in the mine disaster, accepted, under a misapprehension, a lump sum of £">11 in lieu of £26 a year, and gave a receipt for the same, as lie thought the £2t> would be payable for only two years. It scents that votes have bee* continued lor nine years to others having similar claims, and the Board therefore recommended Parsons' case to the Public Trustee, who, however, declined lo recognise it. The Advisory Hoard is now calling on the Government to hold an inquiry into the action of tlie Trustee. It Was stated that the contingency fund, out of which the proposed payment to , arsons would lie made, was in credit to the amount of £.fnO().
