EXTENDING SCOPE OF EDUCATION

CONFERENCE AT WANGANUI. (Per Press Assocl&tien.) WANGANUI, Sept. 27. A conference was held iby the Education Board this morning for the purpose of considering details ia connection with classes which it is proposed to .establish throughout the educational district, namely, agricultural and dairying. Delegates were present from local bodies, agricultural associations, and branches ol the Farmers' Unions from Hawcra and Palmcrston. The scheme outlined to Inspector Gray was discussed. It provides for the appointment of an instructor in agriculture and dairying, who will visit the schools and give practical instruction to tea-, cliers. The objects of the schciufl were :~(l) A more systematic and! scientific method of dealing with na[lure study and the' study of plant life; (2) more definite technical instruction in district high and technical schools ; and (3) to carry tho benefits of technical instruction to outlying centres.

The conference endorsed the proposal, and decided to bring the saina before the bo-dies they represent with a view to getting financial assistance.
