WHITELEY CHURCH
The .quarterly meeting of.lay preach-' ers in connection with the above church was held on Thursday evening in the Whiteley Hall. Tin* members and wives were entertained at tea by the Rev. J. N. and Mrs Buttle, and occasion was taken to say farewell to Mr and Airs .J. R. Chatterton, who shortly remove to Auckland. After full justice had been done to the good things provided, and before • the company left the tiibl'.', Mr- Bui tie expressed to Mr Chalicrton the kindly "feeling of his co-workers in the branch of Christian service of which the meeting was representative. Mr Buttle stated he had always found Mr Chatterton a willing worker, and for many years had rendered devoted service to the church. He wished him success in his new splicre,and feli sure he would find plenty to do both in church and commerce. On behalf of his brethren lie presented Mr Chatterton with a neatly bound copy of the new hymn hook with tunes. Mr Buttle also presented Mrs Chatterton with a copy of the new hymn book. Messrs Pikett, J, Ashcr, G. Maunder, and J. Boon also addressed those present in wonts appreciative of the service rendered by Mr Mrs Chatterton. Mr Cluiterton replied in felicitous terms-, acknowledging the gifts and stating he should ever cherish the warmest feelings of regard and esteem for those h c was leaving behind. The business was then held. A musical partv consisting of several young people of the congregation entertained the ladies of the company with an excellent programme. On behalf of those present, Messrs Ashcr Bikett and T. Chatterton tendered thanks to the host and hostess for their kind hospitality.
