NEW PLYMOUTH CRICKET CLUB

The annual meeting of the New Ply* mouth Cricket Club was held on Tuesday evening at,the Council Chambers, Mr V. Elliott presiding over a fair attendance. The annual report stated that so far, as the' Club was concerned last season had not been very satisfactory. The seniors were only able to play on two cup matches prior to 1 Jan. 26 owi ing to the wet weather and the three weeks' spell during the Christmas and Carnival holiday, ami consequently interest languished. The position of the team in the senior competition therefore at the end of the season was not very creditable. During the season eight cup matches were played, of which three were won, three lost and two left unfinished. With reference to junior cricket it was hoped that something satisfactory in regard to subscriptions would he arranged. Thanks were accorded to Mr J. Attrill for four match balls and the press for reports, ami sympathy was tendered to Mr C. Rcncll (a vice-president) and his family on their sad bereavement.

The best batting averages were : A. S. Hascll, inoings 10, not out 3, average 21.9 ; J. S. Fleming, innings 9, not out 1, average 12.25 ; E. Lash, innings 0, average 9.6 ;> E. Lightband, innings 7, not out 1, average 9.2. Bowling: G. Braund, 38 wickets" average 5.7 ; V. Elliott, 11 wickets, 10.9 ; A. S. Hascll, 13 wickets, average 13; E. Whittle, 19.wickets, average 13.3. The following officers were elected : -President, Mr O. Samuel (re-elect-ed) | vice-presidents, Messrs C. Renncll,S.;Teed ami S. Hill (re-elected)-club captain, Mr E. Whittle • hon secretary and treasurer, Mr A. Bewley; _ auditor, Mr 10. Lighlftand ; committee, captain, secretary, una Messrs H. Stacker, Steeds, Price, Braund, Hascll, Broome and Lightband ; delegate, Mr Hascll. A number of new members were elected The subscriptions were fixed at 4.1 for seniors and 10s for juniors and seniors under 19 years or age. The secretary was instructed to forward a resolution to the combined sports committee approving of their action in endeavouring to get control ot and,, effect improvements to the Recreation sports ground
