THE DAIRY INDUSTRY.
tat Loss from Unprofitable Stock A Pwsjaroos Season Predicted. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 19. The Chief Dairy Commissioner, Mr feinsella, is of opinion that the farm of New Zealand are losing a million yearly through not weeding out their unprofitable dairy sto:.'k. He has found great reluctance 011 the part of daily farmers in the colony to part with thoir poor cows. They do not,, he Sil vs realise that if they weed out poor milkers and repluce them with hotter animals they will increase their pi-ofits to a wonderful extent. It costs as much to keep poor cows as good ones, and the difleronee in the profits i s considerable.
The Commissioner says we are to experience a wonderfully prosperous dairy season, but he is rather afraid that the high prices will have the effect of making the farmers more indifferent t.uin ever as to the necessity of improving the quality of tho herds.
